<Back to Chapter 3>

(1) Landgon, S., "Transfer Patterns in Alaskan Limited Fisheries," January 17, 1980.

(2) The Alaska Urban Local category is not applicable for several fisheries which have no local urban communities. These fisheries are the Yakutat set net, Chignik seine, Bristol Bay salmon drift and set net and herring spawn on kelp, Lower Yukon salmon and herring gill net, and Nelson and Nunivak Island herring gill net fisheries.

(3) The first edition of this report (1983) estimated the number of transfers involving permit holders who used an "in care of" address at 2%. Since then there have been major permit file data corrections which included replacing temporary mailing addresses with permanent addresses.

(4) When using Tables 3 and 4 please note that when there are no urban communities in the area local to a fishery, Alaska Urban Locals are necessarily zero.

(5) The extent of migration might be overstated because of the use of temporary mailing addresses during the permit renewal process. As noted previously, this problem has been reduced by recent form revisions which allow for both a permanent address and a temporary mailing address.
